The Balabac Islands are one of the most remote, least-touristed spots in the Philippines — pristine sandbars and turquoise water with a fraction of the crowds of El Nido or Coron. But remote comes with tradeoffs, and I’m not going to sugarcoat them. Here’s my honest take on whether it’s worth the effort to get there, plus the parts of the trip that don’t make it into the highlight reel.
